PANDEMIC IN 2020

Dear people of the future,

This is the year 2020. And yes it will be marked in history as something which shook the world. When the world was at the stake of survival when animals were free but humans were locked inside the cages of their home. When governments of various countries urged their citizens to practice social distancing. When we learnt the importance of meeting people in person. Virtual meetings were the only option left but as humans, we longed personal touch.

People worked but from home. Homes became new office areas and phones and laptops, the most important assets. Markets were shut down and only essentials were available in the market area. Sitting at home initially sounded great but started taking toll mentally as well as physically with passing time. What people assumed to be a little virus, created never imagined havoc across the globe. Originating from China in the late months of 2019 (exactly how it originated is a matter of scientific concern) this virus travelled the globe, affecting most nations in 2020. And guess what, who were its carriers? Well, us. Yes, us humans.

Was it that bad? May be or maybe not. But every coin has two sides. It brought with it much needed solace to the earth. Almost no vehicles to mess up with the environment. Animals were happy. Birds were at places they never visited. Some gifts were for humans too. We humans discovered ourselves. We discovered our vulnerability, and even how simple this life could be minus the complexities we created ourselves. We discovered the lost us, the hidden passions, the forgotten hobbies, the tiny nuances of life. We again learnt to observe, to actually see what a beautiful place we live in. Nature reminded us of the importance of a pause, the beauty of solitude, the strength of remaining connected to your family.

It taught us what we were ignoring altogether. The value of slowing down. What are we running behind? It gave us the time to think about what actually matters, who matters. People were dying but who could save us. We ourselves were our only saviours.

This letter is for the generation who is yet to come, who will read this may be as a part of their syllabus, that something happened in the womb of time when nature taught us a major lesson. This humanity will never be able to forget pandemic COVID-19.
