Remember that Story?

Remember that story?

Yes, the one from your childhood. I know you fondly remember that, but it's getting lost somewhere with passing time. Have you told it to someone? Not yet. What are you waiting for?

What happened to the art of storytelling?

No, not through movies, reels, or even books for that matter. But in the voice and words of grandmother and grandfather. With lots of expressions, thought, fun, and a moral, of course. The recitation used to be so raw that it gripped you for hours. And one story was never sufficient. You kept asking for more, unless they're tired, and then they brushed you off. No more stories today, come tomorrow. Nostalgia hits, and you realize time has flown by really fast.

Stories ranged from spirituality to the animal kingdom, fairies, and even day-to-day absurdity. The best part is that the pot was never full. They always had some story, even if it's the 100th story, they'll come up with the 101st. They came up with new ones for you, either from the figs of their imagination or from their experience, or they would even do a lot of reading homework just to tell you a story tomorrow.

Have we lost this generation of storytellers? Where are they? Stories are there, but no one to recite and no one to listen.

Has the technology taken hold of this amazing relationship we shared with our grandparents? How will we remember their voices, their expressions, their excitement for us? Evolution has given us a gift and a hidden curse. We will understand the loss when we realize that we are no longer able to recreate the magic that real people had with real conversations, the rusty feeling of stories, the wait, and the love it contained.

  2. True, the wait of hearing the story from grandparents is now a days missing and due to this the bond between the two generations is also missing somewhere

  3. Madam, it's absolutely true - story telling and the art of stroy telling is fast vanishing. My personal opinion, grand parents these days are reduced to care takers while the parents are away in the office. Gadgets are taking the space once meant for grand parents , and modern day parents don't mind it either. By the way am sure we all remember most of the stories told by out grand parents, reason being, Scientific research proves that retention of information at bed time that too in the form of story telling is highest. More so the reason for academics across the world to recognize the importance of story telling. Compliments for writing g so well and appreciation for bringing out this topic.
